International Women’s Day

March 8, 2021: To think that it wasn’t long ago when women had to fight for the right to vote, to attend medical or law school, and to hold public office. But because of trailblazers like Susan B. Anthony and Shirley Chisholm, today, women are blazing the path in fighting for equity-like Stacey Abrams!

Many of our mothers and grandmothers were trailblazers who encouraged us and who made sure we knew we could accomplish anything we put our minds to. Now, Kamala Harris became the 1st woman of color elected to serve as Vice-President of the United States and a  host of brilliant women also serve as US Senators and Congresswomen.

Ladies, the sky is no longer the limit for us. We’ve come a long way and we still have a ways to go! I am honored to be the 1st woman and second African-American to serve as Mayor in the City of Rochester! I’m most excited for the young women coming up behind me; there is no limit to what they will accomplish.

On this International Women’s Day, I embrace our brilliance, our sisterhood and I honor the many accomplishments of all women!
