(Friday June 4, 2021) – Today I was joined by City Council President Loretta C. Scott to proclaim the month of June 2021 as Caribbean-American Heritage Month in the city of Rochester, kicking off with a celebration of the 24 unique cultures of the Caribbean nations.
The City of Rochester is proud of the many contributions of the Caribbean American community and recognizes the vibrant culture, visual and performing arts, cuisine, and leadership that add to the vibrancy and diversity of our great city. I would like to extend a warm and heartfelt congratulations to the Rochester West Indian Festival Organization and the Rochester Jamaican Organization for their prosperous efforts to share and promote the cultural heritage of our Caribbean American community.
A Proclamation was issued at the special celebration on the steps of City Hall that recognizes the contributions of Rochester’s Caribbean community which featured Caribbean music, food and fellowship. The flags of all 24 Caribbean nations will be on display outside of City Hall throughout the month of June.
